Planning a trip to a mall isn’t rocket science. However, when you’re visiting a place like the Mall of America (MOA), it takes a little more coordination and preparation. Groups heading to the Minnesota gem should take some time to do their research and properly plan in order to make the most of their visit. And to ensure they have the absolute best time possible, they should avoid these common mistakes people make when visiting the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Forgetting the Comfortable Footwear at Home

If you didn’t know, Mall of America is big. Huge, in fact. It’s over 5.6 million square feet, which means exploring takes a lot of walking. One lap around one level of the Mall is approximately 1.1 miles. If you plan to take on that challenge, you need comfortable shoes. Having the proper footwear will make exploring Mall of America’s more than 520 stores much easier – and enjoyable.

Missing Out on the Latest Attractions

The Mall of America is always adding new stores, attractions and restaurants. While it’s great to visit the mainstays that have been around for years, be sure to check out the latest attractions, too. As you plan your visit, there are several attractions that should not be absent from the itinerary. FlyOver America is the ultimate flight ride experience that will make you truly feel like you’re soaring over the U.S. Enjoy a stunning and truly immersive experience at The Escape Game Minneapolis, which features four unique game themes. The entertainment doesn’t end at GameWorks Mall of America. The new fun-hub features over 120 classic and cutting-edge video games, a dynamic bowling alley, high-definition sports viewing and an expansive menu of delicious meals.

Running Out of Exploration Time

As previously mentioned, Mall of America is a big place, with loads to see. One of the biggest mistakes student groups make when they visit is not allowing enough time to explore everything. If you spent just 10 minutes in every store, it would take over 86 hours. Even if you don’t make a stop in each store, you should still allow plenty of time to see everything you want.

Filling Your Bellies Before the Sweets

Mall of America

Outstanding dining options are around every corner at the Mall of America. Your student group shouldn’t miss chowing down at one of the Mall’s fantastic eateries. However, be sure to leave room for dessert. There are some wonderful confectionery shops to satisfy your sweet tooth. Stop by Carlo’s Bakery for the Hoboken, New Jersey’s shop’s famous pastries, treats and custom cakes. Or head over to Macarons by Maddie Lu to pick up a box of those dainty, delicious treats.

Failing to Book a Special Group Experience

Mall of America

Student groups visiting Mall of America can enjoy everything the everyday traveler experiences. But why limit yourself? Enrich your time at MOA with an exclusive group experience. Sign up for the Nickelodeon Universe Physics package, a self-guided program that allows your students to learn the science behind the thrills. It’s included for free with the purchase of any group ticket order of 15 or more, and it’s the perfect way to bring physics concepts into real-world situations. Another unique group experience is the Sleep Under the Sea program at SEA LIFE® Minnesota Aquarium. Spend the night with the fishes as you get a true behind-the-scenes look at aquarium life.

There’s more than one way to experience the Mall of America, and no visit will be exactly the same. However, if you want to make the most of your time, it’s best to heed these warnings and plan accordingly.
