SPRING GROVE, ILL. — Earlier this year, when Richardson Adventure Farm’s Blackhawk-themed corn maze received national attention, the family thought it didn’t get any better than that.

But wait, there’s more!  The Richardson maze has been named to the top-10 list of the world’s best-designed mazes, second only to the Dole Plantation’s pineapple maze in Hawaii. The list includes mazes in Australia, Austria, England, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, England and Wales.

“This was a wonderful surprise,” said Carol Richardson, one of the six family members who own the farm. “This is our 15th maze, and it’s different every year. I guess they based their decision on our last two or three designs. The one for the Beatles 50th anniversary really caught their eye.

Located just 60 minutes northwest of Chicago, the Richardson maze is the only corn maze on the list. The nine other mazes are all formal gardens and classic hedge mazes.  The list was compiled by Design Curia, a website affiliated with two international design magazines, Blueprint and FX. To see all 10 of the award-winning mazes, go to
