Where will you be spending your spring break? A group of students from New Jersey Institute of Technology will be going to Las Lajas, Panama from March 12 to 18.

The students will set up a medical clinic to help aid the health of the people in this village in Panama. These students are members of a nonprofit group called Global Brigades that aim to improve the lives of people in Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua. Senior student Hirva Vyas founded Global Brigades.

The group hopes to help improve medical and dental care but is also open to students with any specialty or degree who want to help. After holding various fundraisers, the group had the money to buy all the medical supplies they would need for their trip to Panama.

In addition to setting up a medical clinic, the students will determine the patients’ medical history and set up electronic records, take patients’ vital signs, observe the doctors and help in pharmacy as well. They will also be working on a public health project while they are there in Panama.

The students are very excited for this amazing opportunity to be able to improve the health of citizens of a different country.
